Dewgooders Weatherwear

Golf in the SouthWest

A couple of years ago, Mike Maves, an amateur golfer in Canada, was frustrated with the weatherwear available for golfers in climates such as his in St. Catherines, Ontario. So he decided to develop his own.

Taking a minimalist approach, Maves designed his oversized pullover rain shirt, full-length rain pants, 3/4 length rain pants, windshirt and gaiters to optimize performance, adding nothing simply for the sake of fashion.

The result is functional and innovative outerwear with minimal use of zippers, clasps and buttons to reduce weight, maximize comfort and eliminate restriction.

The key ingredients are supplex and hydroflex. Supplex nylon is windproof, breathable, water resistant and quick drying. The hydroflex coating is also water-proof, breathable and wind resistant.

Team Maves - Mike, a former insurance broker and his wife, Leah, a former accountant - have been running their business full-time for about a year after receiving positive feedback from golfers who saw their initial products.

They believe their products will be more popular in the wetter golf climates, but have found that many who play early in the mornings really like their gaiters.

Who knows? Dewgooders may make golf gaiters as popular as gaiters are on the ski slopes.
